Dutch/European market compared to USA- newbie looking for advice
Dear Bigger Pocket members,
I am new here and am so impressed by what I am finding. I already have the real estate bug, but am now listening to the podcasts on my way to work and can not believe what I am hearing. The American real estate market seems to be such an "easy market" to make money. It feels as is Europe has very different numbers.
I would love to find people who can help me better understand the European and Dutch markets versus the US market to see what really works here. In the Netherlands we have 2% stam duty, we have a tax on net wealth above 20,000 euros (1,2%) and house prices just seem to be so much higher than in the USA.
A bit about myself. I am an MBA graduate and work fulltime as a group treasurer with a consulting company. I am a single mother with 2 kids. My dream is to be able to make the same amount of income from my investments as I make now from my work in about 3 years as well as help my kids (16 and 20) do the same thing and feel freerer than I have .
I would love to find a mentor that could work with me on my current investment (2 properties in the south of France I rent out short term for holiday lets, Amsterdam which I rent out for AirBNB or short term) and help me figure out my next step.
In any case I am very excited to be here and learn from all of you. A fun fact is that I grew up in the USA (DC ) so I feel very at home. One option I might want to look at is investing in the USA. But I will need to do more research to see how that could be done.
Have a great Sunday and hoping to hear from you,
Eveline
