Experiences and lessons learned from the housing crisis

For someone like me who is new to real estate investment, I am curious to hear and learn from other's experiences during the housing crash. Yes, there is information available on the web, but most of them are catered towards ownership advise. Also, they don't have stories, which is where a forum is special. So, if you were invested during the crash and want to share your story, both good or bad, and what was your takeaway, I would be very much interested in it. Yes, there are some older biggerpockets forums where people have posted questions around the crash, but, I can't find anything with real stories.
