Most homeowners polices do not cover vacant homes over xx days, generally 30 days, maybe 60 days In this market, it's not unusual to have a home on the market 90+ days. If you bought a new home and moved before selling the old one, then can't turn the old place pretty quick vacancy insurance could be necessary. I looked into it and the insurance is darn pricey.

Anyone have experience with vacancy insurance to cover your old home once you've moved out?

Has anyone been denied coverage on a claim because their home had been vacant too long and they did not have vacancy insurance?

I danced around this issue until I was able to sell our old home.
There are ways around it - but you could be playing with fire.

Would you carry vacancy insurance if you had moved out of your old home and it had been vacant for more days than your homeowners policy allows, why or why not?
