Single Family to Multi Family

Hello,

My wife and I bought a house last year that had formerly been apartments. We now would like to change it back into 2 apartments so we can live in the main area and rent out the smaller upstairs apartment. However we do not know how to move forward in this process. Does anyone have any tips on how w should proceed?
