At what point should you start thinking about opening up your ow

I ask this question more out of curiosity than necessity, being that I only own a few properties, I find it expeditious to have them managed by a local PM company. However I was wondering if at a certain point when the number of properties you own could facilitate you managing them full time, is it financially foolish not to start your own PM company? Or do you think this decision is more about the preference of the investor? I'd love to know your thoughts.
