Closing Process - Who's Required

I understand depending on the type of closing (single vs double) that seller and/or buyer would need to be there, but I have a few questions.

1.   Who are the professionals that need to be there?  I hear many people say attorney.  I'm assuming that means real estate attorney.  I also hear people say title company.  Does that mean a title agent needs to be there or does the attorney handle the communication with the title company?

2.  When do these professionals need to be contacted?  Should I try to make contacts before I contract with seller/buyer or after?

3.  Should I always do a double closing when contracting with seller and buyer?

Thanks In Advance,
Kelvin
