I want to get into house hacking but I am concerned about one small thing I guess... what if I do something that upsets one of my tenants (like raise rent) and find a brick in my windshield the next morning, or something worse then than...

You call the police. 

Remember that tenant screening is very important, so if you put a tenant in next door to you with a bad attitude and violent tendencies, don't be surprised.

I lived next door to my tenants for a year when I lived in my 4 plex in Tucson. I never had any issues.
