Question about method of real estate investing

Hi, I'm a super newbie to real estate investing and have a question about a possible method I thought of.

There are real estate investors who do what I believe is referred to as "wholesaling," where they buy houses for cash, correct me if I'm wrong. It's like those "cash for gold" businesses where they buy cash for gold under spot price, except with real estate, it's buying houses for cash under market value.

So my question is, is it possible to set up an arrangement where you find a short-term lease agreement on a vacation home rental, or some other type of home rental (possibly 1-3 months lease), make monthly rent payments on it for the duration of the lease, and after the lease is up, sell it to a "we buy houses" investor? I'm not concerned about selling a house an investor under market value, I'm just curious about whether this is a possible method of real estate investing and how it works.
