Agent before or after financing?

Hello,

Ill be relocating to Solano County CA in SEP and I'm wondering if its advantageous to find pre-approval/ financing before looking for and selecting an agent? If so, how should I start looking for a broker or talking to the big banks? First time home buyer with good credit, VA eligible, and steady financials. Thanks for the advice!
