Self directed IRA vs 401k help please

maybet this a dumb question but, i know the benefits from using a self diricet IRA through an LLC is that you dont get to pay taxes, but why would someone who can take out his 401k money out (assuming he meet the requirements age 59) just use this money to invest in 401k instead of going through all the steps of the self directed ira or solo 401 through the llc? am assuming is because the person would pay more taxes using his 401k alone.....
