Stiffed by Contractor - Need Attorney Recommendations

Alejandro Correa
Posted

Hey there everyone. Long story short; I was stiffed by my contractor and I need recommendations for good attorneys in the Orlando/Kissimmee area who can get me from A-Z in the small claims process. Any references are appreciated. Cheers.

@Alejandro Correa

Hi Alejandro,

If your claim is below $8,000 (last time I checked) -  you can file a small claims action yourself.  It is a 1 page form you fill out.  Usually if you look on your county clerk's website they will have the form for you to fill out.  I have done it numerous times.  It's a very simple process that does not require an attorney.  An attorney would just eat up any money you would recover from your contractor.  When you go to court, the judge will have you sit with a mediator who will try to help the two of you negotiate the issue.  If you can't reach an agreement, then a court date is set - again - no attorney required, as the judge will decide the case based on the evidence provided.

If your claim is over $8,000 you can't use small claims

All the best!

Randy
