help getting an REIT started / can you use 1030 exchange into investment property
I'm serving overseas, which is making it hard to start investing so, I'm looking for REIT agents/broker/coach that I can talk to help me get started on the right path. I would like to see if I can put the money that I have put a side for investment property into a REIT and then when I retire from the military, would it be possible to do something like an 1031 exchanges into an investment property. I'm also open to more idles and suggest as I am learning more about real estate investing.

You can't do a 1031 exchanges with a REIT, but you could buy something turn-key in an appreciation heavy market, hire a solid PM, and start stacking equity to later 1031 into a turnkey multi-family and continue to grow. This could be a great way to invest pretty passively.
Columbus, OH is a great market for appreciation if your interested!
