Building a Triplex or 4plex to house hack

Has anyone built a tri/quadplex and house hacked that way? Specifically in Wisconsin, what are typical building costs per sq. foot? We may have an opportunity to make this work for us, and with the price of homes in our area building might make more sense. Looking for any insight to anyone who has done this or something similar with a new build.
