I've been impressed with the free data provided by the NAR (National Association of Realtors) 

This one stat in particular is super interesting, and measures how many new single-family permits are issued for every new job. (link above)

This is tracked for 174 major metro areas. 

In our area (Reno, NV) there is 1 permit for every 5 new jobs on average. 

Based on the historical average, there is typically 1 single-family permit issued for every 2 jobs. 

Check it out if you're curious to see what your area looks like.
