Why Pursue Real Estate?

Recently had a real estate agent mentor ask me my "why" and goals for 2023 which sparked this post.

I actually started out in real estate only as an investor and not an agent. My friend and I were interns at a summer 9-5 office job in college and we spent pretty much any free time we had learning about real estate investing together and realized it could change our lives and prevent us from being stuck like so many of the coworkers around us.

A couple years had past and my friend bought a couple duplexes and then I went on a search for my own. After a few showings with my agent (who a lender referred me to), I realized I knew more about investing and real estate than he did. I really enjoyed the process of researching properties and getting to know each sub market better and better. I also liked the idea of working for myself versus they 9-5 office job. So at the beginning of 2020 I got my real estate license and purchased my first duplex which I house hacked. After that I went on to help coworkers and friends purchase investments as well, thus my primary clientele became investors. I never looked back from there.

By saving profits from commissions at a real estate job I love and putting that into my personal real estate investments I get the best of both worlds. Passive income and freedom of schedule allows me to take control of my life, by spending time with friends and family and doing things/going places I otherwise wouldn't be able to in a 9-5.

There are a lot of individuals seeing things slow down because of the economy and high interest rates and quitting (agents, investors, entrepreneurs alike). Please do, that's more market share for the rest of us! Good luck out there!
