OOS Property Seller Disclosure Issue

Greetings,

Trying to determine if the seller would hold any responsibility for the following. Bought an OOS duplex 6 months ago. From the beginning one of the tenants has only paid rent when coaxed by property manager to get state rental assistance. She paid several months rent this way then, according to the city, was no longer eligible for this rental assistance because she had used her 12 months of assistance. I had no knowledge of this at time of purchase and was not able to get historical proof of rent paid when I asked for it at time of purchase. Now the tenant is simply not paying rent. It seems the tenant had been paying rent this way prior to my purchase given she ran out of rental assistance. Might I have any recourse against the seller for not disclosing this information?

Much thanks.

@Jesse Stein

I always assume if they cannot provide proof of rental payments then the tenant is not paying and I will need to evict.

In this situation there is no recourse. If the seller would have provided fake payment vouchers then possibly.

This should be a good learning lesson of stick to your guns and do not buy or close unless you get what your looking for, or in situations like this drop your price.
