Buying Older Home the has been Rehabbed a few Times

I'm looking at a property that was built in 1977.  My question is what would be the pitfalls of buying a property that has been updated a few times over the years but mainly a facelift more so than a complete rehab with plumbing and electrical.  With the technological changes over that length of time what should I look out for?
