Vetting out potential RE Investor/Partner

Hi All,

How do you verify if someone claiming to be an RE investor is legit? I'm trying to network across the country looking for partners on real estate investing deals but I'm having trouble being able to trust someone I haven't met in-person. Even if we do meet in-person, how can I verify that this person really does own all these homes and verify their claims on their ROIs?
