How do I Get Started?

Jeremiah Hutter
Posted

Hello all!

I have recently come across a ton of information regarding REI and am looking into seriously getting involved in this way of life. I am 20 years old working a 9-5 job that gets me decent money for my current situation, but I am looking for more. I have looking at all of the different ways to invest in real estate and the buy-and-hold and house-hacking strategies appeal to me the most. I am looking for advice on where to get started, such as how to find likeminded people in my area that I could learn from, ways to look at different properties, or any general REI tips. Thanks!

@Jeremiah Hutter start connecting with local investors now, you can find them here on BP, Facebook, and other RE platforms. Join your local REIA and attend meet-ups in your area. Chances are you'll find someone who has house hacked before or is currently implementing the strategy. As others have mentioned, for more practical steps, continue to save your capital and build your credit. Lenders will require at least 2 years of tax returns from your W2 to grant pre-approval. If you have any current debt, start chipping away at that as well. You seem to be in a solid position for being 20 years old, continue to analyze deals consistently so that when an opportunity presents itself you're ready to pull the trigger without having to think twice about it. Hope this helps!
