Buying timber land in Louisiana or Texas

Jared Crain
Posted

There is a thriving timber industry where I am and I am considering purchasing raw land to harvest the timber. However, I don't know a blessed thing about the timber industry. There are wooded tracts around me that are going for about 3k per acre. I assume that there are some base requirements such as access to the timber, ease of movement to the lot, age health of the crop, costs associated with harvesting, etc. that would need to be taken into account before jumping in.

Does anyone have any experience with these types of properties? I tried searching the forums and didnt find anything to start from. Any advice or recommendations for further research would be appreciated.
