Having trouble finding contractors in St. Louis Mo.

Hi I just bought a duplex in St.Louis Mo and couldn’t get any contractors out there to do work. From painters to plumbing it’s a two week wait to even get a quote before they start a job. How do you create a team that’s quick and reliable. I want to purchase more units but not sure where to start with finding a team to handle renovations. I’m in California , so everything will be handled remotely.
