How to handle a new roof on a househacking duplex
I bought a duplex a few years back to use for house hacking, so we could save for other investments quicker. We just had to replace the roof this year and I was wondering if anyone would have any insight on this senecio. The roof was $7700, so would it be better to depreciate the roof over the 27.5 years or take it as a deduction since we could only use half the roof value being we live in the other half. We do plan on moving to a new house in the next 5 years also, so I am not sure what the best option would be.
Thanks for the help and Happy Holidays!
