Duplex ADU in California

Teacha Wong
Posted

I just bought a duplex in Los Angeles which has a large backyard I am thinking about building another duplex in the back but I'm not sure if this I covered under the new ADU law that was passed.

I want to know if it is legal under the California ADU law to build another duplex in the back.

More of an "FYI" than an answer to your question.

A few days ago in my post history is a comment that started with "Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!"

In that post I let the other OP, who posted a very similar question, know that if you add an ADU to a 2-4 unit, or multiple ADUs to a SFR, the property can no longer be financed by Agency backed 30YF good loans, and talked a bit about how that can drastically decrease the market value of the property. I posted a link to the guideline. If you never intend to sell or refinance this property, of course that does not matter.
