Hello everyone I have a process question. I’m currently partnering with a contractor and I am awaiting an estimate on the house that we’ve drawn out. Should I have an architect draw full MEP plans of the house before I have the estimate or do I wait for the estimate and together with the floor plan that we’ve drawn out, take that to the architect?

It’s best to get a ball park idea of costs before you start the design process but you you will not be able to get a detailed thorough estimate without complete plans and specs.

So yes you are on the right track getting rough costs before complete design phase. You want to select your builder so they can aid in design and budget development as to keep the project within your budget expectations as you move through the process.
