Getting Real Estate License to Pair with Builders License

Just got my builders license for Michigan. I am wondering what the benefit of getting my real estate license would be. I ultimately want to build homes to sell for profit (spec homes). I don’t want to be a real estate agent in the traditional sense. I have a job doing commercial construction now. Will this be an issue after I get my real estate license? As in - do I need to join a real estate brokerage firm or do I lose it?
