Marin County renovation

I've got a 2K square foot property on a 6K square foot lot.  I had a landscape design company put together a budget for some landscaping (including some hardscaping) and was quoted $70K+.  

Separately, I spoke with an architect who quoted $400-$600 per square foot for renovation.  

These quotes seem absurdly high.  Is this what people are paying in Marin?
