How to move into resort development

Hello BP Users!

I am fairly new to the real estate world, but I've been extremely interested in all aspects of development for resorts and other resort-style properties (second homes, vacation homes, resort-style MF, etc.)

My question to you all would be: what's the best way for me to get started in this space? My eventual goal would be to start my own development company building resorts all over the world. For now, I'm searching for my best option to get started, build the experience, and network required to one day take on my own projects. I'm currently working as a technology business analyst/product manager for a global financial institution with 5 years of experience.

Some options and pathways that I'm looking into at the moment:

1) Working in real estate brokerage/consulting (specifically within the "hotel" groups) - far from resort development but would give the foundational real estate skills

2) Going back to school and getting a masters degree in real estate development - expensive, both in terms of time and money, but would set me straight and could focus on working for a resort developer right after

3) Thinking of ways I can start right now entrepreneurially (redeveloping small projects and moving up) - risk, lack of funds, knowledge, but I'd be my own boss right off the bat

4) Reaching out to resort developers with similar visions that might have potential opportunities - how many will pick up their phones? :D

Any and all help/guidance would be appreciated! Thanks!
