Should I study for a license?
Hello, I am new to the forum. I would love some input on my situation.
My father in law offered that I quit my job and build residential homes with him on 8 plots of land that he owns. We’ve just received builders permit to start building first house and I’m pumped! He’s going to fund the building and we’ll split profits once sold. He’s been quite successful, building over 30 homes over the last 20 or so years. I might be getting ahead of myself but I think I’m going to love the work. Anyway, my wife keeps asking me if Building will depend on my father in laws GC license to hire subs and such. If I decide to continue building without my father what license should I be working toward, if any? I figured I’d start studying for GC but is it necessary for building?
Ps. I do the handy work myself but figured having a GC license would be valuable for repairs moving forward. We plan on investing in more rental properties, but we’re in no rush.
Thanks for any advice!
