(CA) Home Inspector walked right in...

Hi - looking for actual verifiable info here (links would be great), not just opinions. :)

We are doing a rehab in California and today (after getting signed off on everything last week) a building inspector just waltzed in the front door (no knock) and said he was there to "inspect the copper piping." We haven't pulled permits for any copper piping and there isn't even any going into the house...it's all PEX. He started getting annoyed and wanted to poke around a bit and we told him "no, here is everything signed off and our permits - have good day sir."

Honestly, it just seems like they were messing with us and trying to find something to pop us on. My question is are they allowed to just enter the home like that even if they supposedly "have an appointment?" Or say, an inspector is there to sign off on a roof permit but he sees trash from an obvious tear out of a bathroom out back while he's on the roof...is he then allowed to say, "I'm going inside because I suspect you demo'd a bathroom?"

At what point do I stand my ground and say gtfo my property? lol

Thanks!

The point when you want to tell an inspector to gtfo my property, is the point where you want to go to war and really make your life miserable.

I assume your permits/inspections included the pex?
