What is a Molley Pole?

Hello all,

This is a construction/structural related question. We just has our house inspection and saw a pole that was installed after the house was constructed. The house was build in 1992 and the pole was installed in 1998. Invoice from 1998 states 

"Install molley pole in basement to support the steps.

Labor and Material $175"
