Construction Investment Jobs

Background:

I am a buy-and-hold investor and a project manager (unfortunately in product development in a regulated industry).  I am looking to make a career change and I want to move out to Denver, Colorado where I have a few units.  I have looked into purchasing land and building, but when I put together all of the pre-purchase numbers together, I could never find something attractive enough.  Since I know very little about the construction industry, I don't even know where to start.

Bottom Line:

I want to be on the owner side of a construction project in either project management or analysis, but am willing to do anything to learn the industry.  Any help/suggestions/resources to research would be very helpful.  Thanks!
