New to Land Development - Seeking Advice for a Project in Taylor, MI

I have recently been presented with an opportunity to develop on a piece of land in Taylor, Michigan as I know the owner, I'm pretty new to the world of land development. The land is roughly an acre in size, with an existing church structure, and falls under R1-c zoning.  As I'm not well-versed with the Taylor real estate market, I am eager to learn about the viability and what I should be aware of when developing land in a suburban setting. Also, if you know any reliable builders or architects who specialize in such projects, I'd greatly appreciate your referrals. As well as shared experiences, market analysis, or regulatory insights would be incredibly helpful.
