Larger Apartment Building Rehabs for Cheap Prices in Detroit
As I virtually drive through inside the DMZ area of Detroit I see a lot of larger brick apartment buildings boarded up, and looking rentable as (Affordable housing /Housing Choice Voucher Program/Section 8) if they were re-developed.
I'm talking about larger places. Places probably too big for a DIY rehabbers to handle in a reasonable amount of time.
Does Detroit City, have any type of programs that look to help put these potential gold mines back to work (to offset the huge risks)?
Such as Tax abatements, grants for new windows, HVAC, wiring, plumbing, roofing, durring construction armed security guards, etc... (???)
Have people been refurbishing any of these larger buildings during the gentrification (I am thinking of housing the population in place (in their own neighborhoods) vs replacing them via gentrification--everyone has to live somewhere).
And most important of all do you Michigander locals, do you think the local population would want to live in buildings like this (new and modern), stacked one upon the other, vs living in a SFH in possibly more run down condition?
Here is a quick mock-up to show what I mean.
