Have you build a new construction?

My wife and I have done a couple of house flips that included major renovations. This time we are looking to buy a new house and we have seen a couple of properties with a lot of potential, but we feel that we would be better tearing down the old house and building a new one. We don't have anyone who has done this and we are curious about the process do it. Have you bought an old house or land and had a contractor build a new house? Could you share your experience? What was the process? If you are in the Boston area, How expensive was it?
