Wooded land to home site: What is the process?

Hi all! I have recently purchased several parcels of raw land that are heavily wooded. I would like to clear a small section of one of them and place a small home on it. This is a totally new process to me and I would like to do more of this in the future. I am using this project as my "school" to learn the process. 
I am not sure where to start. Can anyone recommend a resource that will give me a "road map" from start to finish?
