First time NY home buyer and want to invest in Florida

I have good income, no debt and I want to dive into real estate investing. I’m saving and would like to purchase something soon. I am from New York and would like to invest in Florida and eventually live there half the year.

Tips on locations?

Should I buy my “own house first” only thing is I will be still working in new york.

Help!! Anyone doing the same? What do you look for? Etc.
