Rental license needed in Minnesota?

Hey!

When searching for properties on various sites, such as Redfin, I see that there is a section at the bottom with the details of the property that states "rental license available". Can anyone shed some light on whether or not a rental license is required in the state of Minnesota? I am unclear on what it means and I am finding different information about licenses in my state. Any information helps!

If you are going to rent the property out to others, some cities require a license, some do not.  You need to check with each individual city.  Most of them have the information on the city website with the requirements for a license; inspections, costs and other requirements. The state does not require a license.

If you are investing in Minneapolis, a rental license is needed.

There are some Ins and outs to property management in the city of Minneapolis. When you call the city you will want to ask if the property had a previous license, and if so what “category” the property is. Feel free to DM me if you have specific questions we can help with

Edina just started licensing landlords in Nov as well, with Maplewood jumping on the bandwagon too
