Best Markets For Newbie Looking to House Hack A Duplex!?

Hi Guys!

First post here, I am a 21-year-old college student from New York who is eager to invest in real estate... but has no money. I plan on working for two years post-graduation to build up capital and have w2 income proof. I am obviously still in the beginner stage and am wondering what are some good markets that are also great places to live. I want to buy a duplex and house hack for my first investment, and was wondering where I should go! I really like Texas, but I see prices are really creeping up, and I know the mid-west has great cash flow, but I am not sure if I could live out there. I want nothing to do with the northeast, and I don't think that is a bad thing as the opportunities seemingly arent up here anyway. Anyway, hello and any help would be very much appreciated!

Capital and w2 income are not so imported compared with Experience and knowledge.

Knowledge you can get by listening to the realestate Podcast and reading the blogs and books. "ABC's of real estate investing" is a good book to understand what you are looking for in good markets to invest.

Experience you can get by connecting With a local real estate investor that is doing well and something that interests you in the real estate industry, and maybe even work under him for the next 2 years, that's how you also get A W2 and also you get very good experience.

The best way to meet an investor is over here on the website, and in local realestate investment meetings.

Thank you so much Meir! That is a great idea, as you said knowledge and experience is key. You couldn’t be more right, I am trying to learn as much as possible these next two years, so working for an investor seems like a no brainer. Although, I would like to learn in the market I eventually settle into, so for right now I’ll keep reading and researching!
