Property with aluminum wiring, what do I do?
Hi everyone,
I am in the process of offering on a property that currently has aluminum wiring. With all of the unknowns from possible lender and insurance requirements, my question is, should I run from this deal because of this? Or are there cheaper or more cost effective solutions other than just replacing everything? Anyone have experience with purchasing an apartment building with aluminum wiring and have any advice?
Thanks,
Kyle

As an electrician, I’d recommend just pigtailing the aluminum to copper unless you plan on doing more extensive reno’s. It will be far cheaper than doing a complete rewire, and is totally safe if done correctly. As long as you’re using al-cu rated marettes, and an anti- oxidizing compound for good measure, there’s no reason to do anything more. Hope this helps.
