Who has had success converting a single family residence to a mul

I see threads of people proposing the conversion,  but no success stories? 

I have a property that is perfect for this. 3 level property, about 1600 sq ft per level, only the main level being used. It is currently a successful rental. If I could triple the income...well yes im in.  Jumping in head first, any advice will help!
