Multi-Family Help!!

Would love to know how many of you started out investing in RE. I'm a 19 year old student from New Jersey and have been reading all about real estate, multi-family, apartment acquisitions, and deal syndications. I want to go this route as i know i have some family members who would be willing to seek an investment with me on a multi-family investment.

What is my first step? Could you break down the syndication process and structure you guys have used in your deals? Any particular good areas around me i should be looking at?

Thank you,
Luis

Congratulations @Luis Concepcion for taking the first step. Before you move forward with a specific niche ask yourself WHY. Why apartments? Why syndication? What are you trying to achieve? Do you want a full-time job raising money and managing assets, or would you rather work in another job and build a rental portfolio on the side? Are you willing to travel or do you want to invest locally? Do you plan on managing the property yourself or hiring 3rd party property managers? Syndication and apartment investing is NOT a passive, set it and forget investment. If you find that apartments and syndication are the route that you'd like to take,  I would pick up the following:

1. The Millionaire Real Estate Investor by Gary Keller

2. The ABCs of Real Estate by Ken McElroy

3. Emerging Real Estate Markets by David Lindahl
4. Listen to the BP podcast including episodes with @Brian Adams and @Brian Burke

5. Listen to @Joe Fairless podcast

6. Listen to @Michael Blank podcast on raising money and getting started in apartments

7. Continue to read the forums and blogs and follow the guys and gals who are doing what you want to do at the level that you want to be at.

Good luck and looking forward to hearing about your progress and success.
