Should I put a back patio for units of new construction?

Or perhaps a front patio will work to save money? Here's a mockup of the rear patio. Anyone have experience with this from an investment cost/return analysis perspective?

Thanks for taking the time to mock that up. That is much more functional than I had going.

What do you think about a front patio instead of the rear? That way I might get a bbq in there.
