Buying Houses off the Auction for $1 and up ?

I'm thinking about buying some of these distressed property in my area on the auctions that's bidding starting of a $1 , My father who is a contractor is willing to do some slow fixing it up while I continue to build more capital up and get more houses. What are you guys thoughts on the idea ? I know with buying property off auctions, there can be possible liens and other misc that I would have to take care off,=.

What are some other things I need to be aware about while I'm looking into buying these distressed houses for $1 and above ?
