Buying foreclosed homes

I just found a property that I’m very interested in (4b 2ba, 1,396 sqft.) but the property is listed as pre-foreclosure/auction.

Some rooms need TLC but overall, for $500,000, it is a pretty good deal. I’ve never made an offer on foreclosed homes before and I’m looking for a little advice on how to get the ball rolling.

Is this something I should pursue or stay away from foreclosed homes as my first investment?
