How to check if an offer has been submitted to the bank?

How does one check to see if one's offer has been submitted to the bank by the RE agent listing the REO?

We'll be looking for a buyer's agent soon, but for one- we don't have any recommendations as of yet,

and 2. I've talked to the main agent listing REO's a couple times and am getting the feeling it might be a good thing to be able to check and see if an offer was actually submitted to whatever desk at the bank... Can we do that or can a buyer's agent do that? & if so how much work would it entail for an agent?
