In a mess, need advice...

Brief summary of my issue:
I currently own a house with my ex-wife in New York.
We have a %100 loan with Bank of America.
Ex was living in the house and payments were initially split.
Ex stopped paying, so at lawyers advice i stopped as well.
Ex filed for Bankruptcy.
Attempted shortsale. Found buyer. BoA dragged feet for months until the buyer walked away.
Mortgage has not been paid in over 2 years.
BoA has recently contacted me for a loan Mod.
I cannot afford to pay the mortgage on the house even if it is modified.
What options do i have?
Should i try to shortsale? the house needs a ton of work, which i don't have the money for.
Does my ex still have responsiblity b/c of her bankruptcy? Loan is in both our names.
Is forclosure an option?

If anyone has any advice, please help.
