Foreclosure VS Conventional financing

I am about to do a home inspection on a HUD duplex with the intention to house hack. I'm nervouse about the results of the inspection due mostly to my bank to wanting to lend based on condition of apliances. One kitchen doesnt have a range and the oven door in the second unit isn't even attached. The condition of the oil burners are not looking good either. I have the funds to fix these issues after closing. I am not trying to fix all these things before closing for obvious reasons. Does anyone have any experiance on how much the bank or HUD will work with you? Do I only need half the house functioning? Can I put a bunch of cash in an escrow for the reapairs?
