Trying to find the status of a home auction

There is a pre foreclosure that has had its auction date pushed back several times over the course of a year or so.  The last updated auction date was supposed to be last week.  A call to the Foreclosure Trustee agency that is handling the foreclosure today said that their file for the house is now closed and a 3rd party is handling it now.  

Anyone have any idea what that means?
