Land Tax Sale Due Diligence

If anyone has gotten land from a tax sale can you tell me what you had to figure out before bidding on it. In my mind getting Land vs a House could be a much more safe investment. I say that because 1000 things could be wrong with the house that you cant see when driving by, but if you can find out the approximate value of the land than that's really all there is to it. What you see is what you get.

Does this seem to make sense or is there a lot that I am not considering?
