When do I actually get proof of title insurance?

I purchased one of the REOs from auction.com (the deal is closed 2 weeks ago) and so I am trying to verify everything that I did everything correctly. The deed is special warrantee deed. Upon closing, I did not receive recorded title (I believe this usually takes up to 2-3 months to complete). However, at the same time I did not get proof of title insurance from title company either. When I asked about this, the title agent responded that they will issue title insurance in 90 days. Is this normal/legal?

I verified that this is not being recorded yet via public record. So I wonder what is the correct thing for me to do to protect or verify myself that I am the current owner of the property?
